Locomotion, Boats and Boating, Water, Lakes, Image of the L. E. Block, one of five ore carriers of the Inland Steel Company. Length is 596 feet; beam 64 feet, and depth 33 feet. It has 18 hatches, was built in 1927 and is powered by Scotch Marine boilers and triple expansion engine. Capacity is 15,300 tons.

Ships - Ranger III

Locomotion, Boats and Boating, Water, Lakes, Ships, Passenger Ships [Photo of the Ranger III on it's way to Isle Royale. The ship was built in 1958 in Sturgeon Bay, WI at a cost of $1,200,000. It carries 123 passengers and eighty tons of freight during the summer passenger season. The Ranger III is the largest piece of moving equipment owned by the National Park Service]

Ships, Water, Lakes, Aids to Navigation, Lighthousers Str. Deleware - renamed Fred W. Sargent. Built 1905. 370 x 46. Sold Chile renamed Papudo. Note Capt. McCormick and Mr. Reeder on revetment. [Two men stand on the dock watching the ship. A lighthouse can be seen on the right.

Shipwrecks - Wenona

Accidents, Marine Accidents, Shipwrecks, Water, Lakes, Sch. Wenona - Driven ashore September 7, 1898, outside east breakwater Portage Ship Canal. A complete wreck, no loss of life. Originally built as a steamer for Union S. S. Co., Cleveland, Ohio 1857. Cut down to a barge 1876. Lies below present look-out tower. [Image of waves washing over the ship near the shore.]

Shipwrecks - Pasadena

Accidents, Marine Accidents, Shipwrecks, Water, Lakes, Persons Remains of schooner Pasadena wrecked Oct. 5, 1906 in a 70 mile gale, 1 mile north east of Portage Canal. Two lives lost. Ship and cargo a complete wreck. Steamer Gladstone which had her in tow reached Lily Pond in safety. Taken October 14, 1906. [Several people gather on the beach to view the remains of the Pasedena.]

Shipwrecks

Note tug Maytham on left entirely housed in. About October 1, 1895. [The Bulgaria is the largest of the ships with the Montana wedged in the middle.]
