Redridge/Freda Champion Mill Transportation |
Transportation, Persons, Human Settlements |
Redridge Mill employees transported to Freda by wagon in summer and sleigh in winter. Louis Hendrickson was teamster. Back to camera are Alex Hannula and Walter Lieppa. Facing camera is Bill Issacson. Little boy is Bruno Alaniva. Passengers on this afternoon shift were transported to the Freda Mill via this wagon without springs. Many men preferred to walk the three miles instead of enduring a jarring ride that endangered their backs. Men were hauled by this method from 1922 through 1928 when the automobile was used for transportation. [A young boy shows the men off to work. A structure that appears to be a bandstand appears in this photo.]
