The local land ownership platbook compiled by the 4-H Club members is receiving serious study in the above picture. Emlyn Jones of Miami, Fla. noted that the book shows the locations of streams, lakes, parks, roads, forest areas, farming areas, names of landowners and much other information of interest to tourists. Bill Hodge is pictured in the background. It is on sale locally. [Mr. Jones, with a fishing basket over his shoulder pours over the plat book at what appears to be a sporting goods store.]

Fires - Bosch Brewery |
Accidents, Fires, Buildings, Fire Department, Officials and Employees, Fire Fighters |
Firemen unraveled hose and pumped water from Portage Lake into the Bosch Brewery Monday morning at 10:15 a.m. as a fire there raged out of control. Early reports indicated that a spark from a cutting torch being used by salvage workers inside the brewery caused the blaze. Workers in the building were able to get out safely, reports indicated. Hancock, Houghton and Hurontown fire departments were summoned to the scene. Smoke from the fire hampered visibility along the Canal Road eastward a quarter of a mile. Flames rose from the top windows of the building along the Portage Lake side, the side the firemen worked from. [Fireman battle fire hoses and flames in this photo.]
