Duggan at Blue Key-sponsored sessions in the Memorial Union and Douglass House Thursday. Many recalled salient features in the life of the dean of students. From left, lower, Dr. James Fisher, a mathematics department associate for almost 40 years; Mrs. Duggan, the dean, and Dr. John R. Van Pelt, president of the college. Photo is similar to image MS051-018-002-001 which was published in the Saturday, May 16, 1959 "Green Sheet" insert for the newspaper the Daily Mining Gazette. The clipping indicates that the gathering was held the previous Thursday. Only one person in this photo is identified in the other image (MS051-018-002-001) -- the man at the far left in the back is Roy Drier, professor of metallurgy.]

Tourist Sights - Arcadian Copper Mine

Persons, , This picture of Mayor Louis Miriani of Detroit took no engineering at all. He liked the Arcadian Mine engine and was extremely happy to be pictured in his Casey Jones regalia of cap and red neckerchief. With him are his wife, who is the former Vera Vachon of Calumet, and his daughter Carol. They were in the Copper Country to beat the gun in Michigans Mayors Exchange ceremonies. Mayor Walter Kline, of Lake Linden is taking Mayor Mirianis place in Detroit. [The mayor of Detroit and his family have some fun on the Arcadian train.]

Ripley Bowling Pin Company

Persons, Manufacturing Process, Mills and Millwork, Carl Lassila stands near a rack of unpainted bowling pins. He holds dimension wood which will ultimately be shaped into a bowling pin. The pins were shaped at the Dodgeville plant from wood dimensioned in the Ripley Gibbs City Lumber Co. factory. The pins are labeled Ripley Bowling Company. Churches - Stanton Methodist

Signs - Arcadian Copper Mine

Sign and Signboards, Woody Plants, Trees, This billboard is the work of the Creative Arts Workshop of Tapiola, Werner F. Savela, proprietor. It is one of 36 of the first 24-sheet outdoor posters (billboard signs) introduced in the Upper Peninsula with the silk screen process of printing. Being distributed by the Arcadian Copper Mine of Ripley, the work is a beautiful five color job including two fluorescent colors. The design area is 8 feet 8 inches by 19 feet 6 inches. To draw tourists to the Copper Country the Arcadian Copper Mine management is placing 33 of these colorful posters along the main highways in Wisconsin and Minnesota and in strategic spots in Michigan outside the Copper Country.
