Fishing for Rainbow at Big Huron Rivier |
Persons, Manners and Customs, Recreation, Sports, Aquatic Sports, Fishing, |
Pictures were taken in the Spring of 1947 or 1948. My father was working for Oscar Emblad at a logging camp which was in the area of the Big Huron River. The camp was at the end of a railroad grade and in order to get there, you had to cross a bridge that was built by a man named "Big Eric". He built the bridge so the loggers could get through and it is still known as "Big Eric's Bridge." There were many logging camps along the railroad grade. All the logging camps would bring their logs to a sawmill in L'Anse that was owned by the Ford Motor Company. The Big Huron River is located outside of L'Anse near the Huron Mountains. [Photos of a crowd of fishermen angling for a prize of rainbow trout. "Lefty" Hendrickson with his catch of fish. Back of photo says his name is really Walter. He was called "Lefty" because he was a left-handed boxer.]
