These two trophies have been provided by the Michigan High School Athletic Association for the Upper Peninsula Regional High School Ski Meet at Houghton. Six Chief Petty Officers and one third class will depart from Houghton Thursday evening for Long Beach, CA, where they will report to the commanding officer, USS Yorktown (CVS 10) for two weeks training aboard the supercarrier. Operations include the study of missile launching, techniques, construction of atomic missiles and the structure of the fastest jet aircraft the navy has today. These reservists are members of the local Naval Reserve Surface Division and represent a total of over 130 years service with the Navy, most of which has been with the "Copper Country Navy." Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Heikkinen are two longtime residents of Aura. They have farmed in the area settled by Houghton County people back in 1913. The concentration in that area came about because of the layoff due to the the strike. A large number of farmers moved to the area in that year. They moved their houses across Keweenaw Bay by scow and placed them on fertile Aura soil. The little boy is Andy, a grandchild and a third generation farmer. Chassell merchants have gone all out by decorating their windows to lend atmosphere to the old Worcester town. Here, the Chassell Mercantile Co. displays many Panther trophies. The window is a compliment to the work of Ed Helakoski and Wilmer Savela, the coach, who preceded Big Ed in masterminding the affairs of Chassell basketball squads. The school now has so many symbols of the court sport that they fill not only the little niche in the Community building, but also the stores of the town. The mercantile firm says, "The days specials are trophies, all Chassells, the greatest Class D basketball school in Michigan."
