Automobiles parked in the Administration Building Vistors' Lot Sept. 11 were treated to an unexpected bath. The lot was flooded through most of the morning and about two inches of water spilled into the ground floor of the building. A formal estimate of damage on campus from flooding and rain has not been completed. [Taken from a September 21, 1978 Tech Topics photo.]

Born in Lansing, July 31, 1880. Graduated from Lansing high school, then enrolled in the University of Michigan where he received his bachelor of arts degree in science. He then attended Michigan College of Mines (MTU) and received degrees of bachelor of science and engineer. He was awarded an honororay degree of Doctor of Engineering and the Distinguished Alumnus Award. He was a consulting mining engineer as well as a mining engineer and geologist in this country, South America and in Norway and Spitzbergen. He served as Director of the Bureau of Mines from 1925 - 1934. He was active in many professional societies serving as the Director of the Belgium American Educational Foundation. Chairman, Hoover Medal Board of Award. In 1958, he was recipient of the Hoover Medal. He held honorary degrees from Colorado School of Mines, Kenyon College and the University of Michigan. Scott directed the first commercial coal mining within the Arctic Circle. [Head and shoulders photo of Scott Turner]
