Mining - Underground Scene - Morris Mine |
Metal Trade, Iron Industry and Trade, Iron Mines and Mining, Manpower, Labor, Skilled Labor, |
A tugger-scraper system on the 7th level of CCI's Morris Mine in the 1920s. The electrically powered drum that made up the tugger part of the combination is on the left; the scraper that the tugger's cables pulled back and forth is on the lower right. The scraper would move ore from the point where it was blasted loose to a vertically situated passage (called a raise), which led to the lower level. Ore fell by gravity into ore cars on this level for transportation to a hoisting shaft. [Underground image of two miners.]
