Description: Residents escaped serious injury when an eighteen unit apartment complex was gutted by fire late Saturday night in Calumet. Sixty firemen from six area fire departments fought the blaze which broke out on the first floor, occupied by the Murphy Drapery Store. High winds hampered efforts to bring the fire under control. (Top) An unidentified Calumet fireman peered through a hole in the ceiling of a third floor apartment to inspect the damage done to the building's rooftop. (Below left) Firemen looked on helplessly as the blaze swept through the three-story apartment complex. (Below right) Residents faced an unpleasant Easter morning as belongings were collected and transported out of their destroyed dwellings. [Images of the aftermath of the fire.]
