[The plaque states: "First home of Michigan Mining School - now Michigan Technological University - 23 students and 4 faculty members for the first Michigan Mining School classes on the second floor of this building in September 1886. The fire hall served as home for the school until the present campus was begun in 1889." This photo shows the plaque mounted on the building.]
