C. C. Workshop fire. Smoke and water damage was extensive but apparently little, if any, equipment was destroyed in a fire which broke out at 5:40 p.m. Monday in the Copper Country Workshop here, the former Rowe Transfer Company building near Condon Field. Hancock Fire Chief Harry Warmington said the fire, apparently started by defective wiring, originated in the northwest corner of the first floor near the elevator shaft. The fire spread to the second floor following the outside of the elevator shaft. A small engine repair shop operated by the Adams Township School System, located on the third floor of the building, was also affected by the fire. William Mannisto, superintendent, said there was heavy water and smoke damage. No one was in the building at the time of the fire. As of yet, no damage estimate was available. The Hancock Fire Department had the fire under control by 8:30 p.m., but were called out again at 10:20 when it flared up again. [Only one fire truck is shown fighting the blaze. A group of spectators observe.]
