Snow Removal

Seasons, Winter, Street Cleaning, Snow Removal, There are two things which make this Sno-go unusal, one is its age and the other, its type. This 1928 model is owned by Wenberg Sales of Houghton and is being used here to move the snow back from the vicinity of Wenbergs on the Isle Royale Sands in preparation for the spring thaw. It was manufactured by Klauer Manufacturing Company of Dubuque, Iowa, said to be number one in its field. Wenberg took it in on a trade from an Upper Peninsula county eight years ago with only a problem of a bad crank shaft. This past summer it was repaired and put to use this winter. The machine operates with a single engine used to run the truck and the rotary. Single engine rotarys of this same type, but more modern, are being experimented with now for reintroduction of the single engine operation. The machiens have been in test for two years now. Wenberg's are the distributors for Sno-go in Wisconsin and Michigan. [Image of the vintage machine in action.]

No robins have been sighted as of yet, but Friday a crow made its presence over the Portage Lake district. [A Sno-Go machine chews up snow and spits it over the bank.]

Snow Removal

Seasons, Winter, Persons, Street Cleaning, Snow Removal William Rogers, 81, finds removing snow from his Greenland premises difficult these days. Not for a long time has the snow accumulated in the manner it has this year. The area has now received about 150 inches for the season. Bill is here shoveling the snow to the highway. It is six feet high where he stands. He is a former miner in the Adventure shafts and can tell many an interesting tale of the days when Greenland was in prosperous circumstances.[Image of Mr. Rogers shoveling snow. The banks are almost as tall as he is.]
