Sch. Wenona - Driven ashore September 7, 1898, outside east breakwater Portage Ship Canal. A complete wreck, no loss of life. Originally built as a steamer for Union S. S. Co., Cleveland, Ohio 1857. Cut down to a barge 1876. Lies below present look-out tower. [Image of waves washing over the ship near the shore.]

Remains of schooner Pasadena wrecked Oct. 5, 1906 in a 70 mile gale, 1 mile north east of Portage Canal. Two lives lost. Ship and cargo a complete wreck. Steamer Gladstone which had her in tow reached Lily Pond in safety. Taken October 14, 1906. [Several people gather on the beach to view the remains of the Pasedena.]

Sunken Montana - Str. Bulgaria tried to force way thru and wedged tight. Completely blocking Portage Canal for three days. Note tug Maytham on left entirely housed in. About October 1, 1895. [The Bulgaria is the largest of the ships with the Montana wedged in the middle.]
