Calumet, Michigan. Company houses of the Calumet & Hecla Co. These houses rent for about $1.00 per room per month, rents running from $6.00 to $10.00 in most cases. As a larger majority of the miners are foreigners, they are addicted to central European ways, and one pastor found 13 people living in two rooms, where decency and morality were impossible. [Image of a row of company houses. The entire side of the street is lined with a fence.]
