Work in the new sawmill of the Vulcan Corporation got underway yesterday as the firm began the first day of sawing since fire destroyed its former mill on Jan. 25, 1956. Virtually all of the timber to be sawed is going into the manufacture of furniture and allied items. Some 80 men are employed on two shifts in the mill and about 100 are working in the woods. Much more efficient than the last milll, the present structure features more modernism and all new machinery. The photo shows the mill and a portion of the large yard. Donken has also been known as "Beaver." The name is taken from the first three letters of the first name of Donald and Kenneth Case.
