Water Show - Portage Lake

Manners and Customs, Recreation, Outdoor Recreation, Transportation, Bridges, Buildings A fascinated and atonished audience crowded the shores of Portage Lake last evening to witness the performance of the Tommy Bartlett Water Ski and Jumping Boat show. Every performer both male and female was professional as well as a champion and each was outstanding in his difficult acts. [Good photo of the Houghton side of the waterfront showng the draw bridge, St. Ignatius Church, The courthouse and Houghton High school. Two of the female performers on water skies are also shown.]

Hunting

Manners and Customs, Recreation, Wildlife-Related Recreation, Hunting, Human Settlements, Cities and Towns, Transportation, Automotive This photo shows Bo Soli and Roger Dault, right, both of LAnse, after they bagged their two deer in the Skanee region shortly after 7 a.m. The men were in LAnse when this photo was snapped. On the route to Three Lakes the Gazette photographer found 26 hunting parties. Most were hunting with US-41 parked cars as their base, although tents and trailers where in evidence. [The two hunters stand next to their vehicle with their kill strapped to the hood. One of the hunters has a pom pom on his hunting cap.]

Porcupine Mountain Ski Resort

Recreation Area, Resorts, Manners and Customs, Recreation, Sports, Winter Sports, Skis and Skiing, Transportation, Automotive A dozen or more buses frequent the Porcupine Mountain ski area during a weekend. Here a Stockley bus out of Rhinelander, WI rests on the lower parking area while its passengers ski in the Michigan State Park. Ahead of the Rhinelander bus is a Greyhound bus. School Sports

Manners and Customs, Recreation, Sports, Transportation, Automotive, Persons This track team, representing the grade schools of Keweenaw are about to board a Mohawk school bus for Calumet to compete in a recent triangular meet with the Calumet and Laurium grade schools. Keweenaw amassed a total of 59 1 6 points. Calumet 25 5/6 and Laurium 23.
