This photo of the Quincy Smelter near the Houghton-Hancock drawbridge has received many far-flung compliments. Seen are some of the homes of Ripley, the residential nooks of the hillsides and the top, the Quincy plateau. Portage Lake reflects frigidity and snow while the water is still not ice surfaced, except for the shoreline areas at the bottom of the photo.
