According to summertime residents of Delaware, this long winged building used to be the old mine boarding house in the days way, way back. Legend has it that while Horace Greeley didn't live here, he did eat here. The barracks like building is used during the summer when delegations from out of state come to live in it and frolic about the once well-known mining area. These are some of the homes in Ripley not far from the old Burt Boiler Shop. The rock piles above the house tops show where prospectors endeavored to locate the Isle Royale veins on the north side of the lake. These diggings are immediately east of the Ripley Falls and are quite shallow. Even an adit was dug. It still exists although greatly filled with debris.
